The Advanced Learning and Research Institute (ALaRI) of the Faculty of Informatics, Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) includes embedded systems as one of the many fields of expertise.
Supported by Agroscope and the Hasler Foundation, IN-FINITUDE AG collaborated with USI to test an intelligent image recognition tool. This was then implemented in Pollenn® to enable the automatic identification of the Japanese beetle, an extremely invasive exotic insect. The Japanese beetle is considered a quarantine pest and is subject to the obligation to report and control in both Switzerland and the EU.
Info Flora is the national data and information center on the Swiss flora. Funded by the Confederation it is also recognized as the national center of excellence for invasive neophytes. Info Flora is a foundation under private law with a public purpose. Its database currently contains over 1.5 million records of invasive neophytes.
Thanks to the collaboration with Info Flora, we are able to complement the Pollenn® maps with data on invasive neophytes from all over Switzerland. Our working closely with the organization helps to provide data on invasive alien plants.
InvaPhyt is a spin-off of the company christen garten- und landschaftsbau ag, since 2020. InvaPhyt aims to make the general public aware of the dangers that invasive neophytes pose to humans, native biodiversity and the economy. With its comprehensive know-how, the company also offers concrete support in the neophyte control: Documentation, courses, consulting, development of individual control measures, cost offers and implementation of the specific measures.
